Manchester giants City and United are interested in Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, according to reports.
Website Goal.com claims City considered making a move for the 21-year-old in the final few days of the transfer window.
Pep Guardiola missed out on Jorginho, who went to Chelsea, and Fred – who signed for cross-city rivals United.
And they say the relationship between Neves’ agent, Jorge Mendes, and City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain is significant in the youngster’s future.
However, they also point out that Mendes is the representative of United manager Jose Mourinho, who has twice made sure the Red Devils have pipped City to a target, with the move for Fred coming just a few months after he brought Alexis Sanchez to the club.
For his part Neves was quick to play down any speculation early in the summer after several stories linked him with a move to Liverpool.
